Nigeria Will Refine 400,500 Barrels Of Crude Oil Per Day By The End Of 2019, NNPC GMD, Maikanti Baru, Says

The Group Managing Director, GMD, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru has assured that Nigeria will achieve the refining of about 400, 500 barrels of crude oil per day by the end of 2019.

DAILY POST reports that the said volume represents 90 percent of the combined refining capacity of all government-owned refineries in the country.

Speaking yesterday at the 50th Offshore Technology Conference, OTC, in Houston, Texas, USA, Baru stated that achieving full capacity restoration of the nation’s four refineries would transform Nigeria from being a net exporter of crude oil to being a net exporter of petroleum products.

He said: “In terms of refining and production of local petroleum products, we have faced the challenge head-on and we are fully committed to the Ministerial directive of ending the importation of petroleum products before the end of 2019.

“We are in talks with the original builders of the refineries to return them to at least 90 per cent capacity utilisation before the 2019 deadline. The expectation is for Nigeria to transform from being a net exporter of crude oil to being a net exporter of petroleum products.

“To this end, we proceeded with tendering of the rehabilitation programmes of our four refineries using a contractor- financing model. The process is almost complete and successful companies for the different projects will soon be announced. This model is expected to be a self-sustaining financial model with near zero reliance on the Federal Government funds.

“For smooth running and implementation, we are also changing the operating and commercial framework of the refineries to make them work efficiently and also be commercially viable.”

Reports showed that Nigeria’s refineries operate far below their combined capacity of 445,000 barrels per day (bpd) due to years of neglect, as well as theft from pipelines and sabotage, thus forcing the country to import nearly all the fuel it consumes, a hefty burden because of price caps on petrol.

APC Is Dead And Buried, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi Says

The Senator representing Kaduna North district, Sulaiman Hunkuyi has declared that the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state is dead.

He added that the party’s remains have been ‘buried’ by Governor Nasir El-Rufai in conjunction with the State Congressess and Ward Committees.

Hunkuyi stated on Monday while reacting to the recently concluded APC ward congresses.

According to him, “The outing that was supposed to deliver a bouncing Party Baby at the Ward Congress occasion, has resulted in Electroblastosis-Featalis; a Stillborn for the party.”

He said: “The “peaceful APC Ward Congress” declared by the Governor yesterday the 5th May, 2018 is indeed the declaration of Peace of the Graveyard after the burial of the remains of APC Carcasses that have been macheted by the El-Rufai faction of the party in cahoots with the State Congress and Ward Committees.”

Hunkuyi, however, said that, “As a very peace-loving member of the APC co-travellers of the APC project within the Nigerian polity, with a vibrant, full developed democratic agenda for our people in the State, we urge the Oyegun led congress to urgently declare the charade a nullity and order for fresh, transparent and democratic process.”

Senator Ajekun Iya AKA Dino Melaye Jumped Off The Police Van Because He Did Not Want To Die, Mike Ozekhome Says

Mike Ozekhome, a senior advocate of Nigeria(SAN), says Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, jumped out of a police vehicle because he did not want to die.

Ozekhome, who is Melaye’s counsel disclosed this at a high court in Lokoja, capital of Kogi state, on Monday.

The police had arrested the lawmaker and was conveying him to court when he attempted to escape.

But Ozekhome justified the action of his client, saying he was teargassed.

”The truth of the matter is that initially, the police told Melaye that they would take him to a high court in Abuja for prosecution but the police suddenly decided to head to Lokoja and Melaye said while they were in the vehicle, the police tear-gassed him twice,” Ozekhome said.

“Melaye protested against why they were taking him to Lokoja instead of Abuja. So, as soon as the vehicle carrying Melaye came to a standstill at Area One intersection roundabout, Melaye forced the door of the vehicle open and jumped down because he was gasping for breath and he did not want to suffocate and die.

”Again, when Melaye jumped from the bus and started shouting, the people around that area and his lawyers sympathised with him and took him to a medical centre in Abuja where the police again came and bundled him to the National Hospital in Abuja, where they chained him to his bed like a common criminal. ‘The question is if someone has the plan to jump bail, he will not allow himself to be in the hospital, he will run to his village or can even run out of the country.”

A high court in Kogi state has fixed May 10 to hear the bail application of Melaye.

Last week, the police arraigned him at a magistrate court in the state. He was charged with arming two suspects for kidnapping and robbery. The court remanded him in police custody.

The bail application by Ozekhome was denied by Suleiman Abdulahi, the magistrate, who asked the senator to spend five weeks in custody.

However, Nasir Ajanah, chief judge of the state, ordered that the senator should be taken back to the National Hospital, Abuja, following an application for bail.

President Muhammadu Buhari Approves The Establishment Of A New Battalion Of The Nigerian Army And A New Police Area Command In Kaduna State

President @MBuhari has approved the establishment of a new Battalion of the Nigerian Army, as well as a new Police Area Command, in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as part of measures to scale up the security response to the banditry affecting the area.

The President strongly condemns the latest massacre of innocent Nigerians in the area. According to him, “I am deeply outraged by this unwarranted, unprovoked and reckless destruction of lives by bandits who belong to the lowest level of civilization.

“I feel the pains and devastation of the families of the victims, and this administration will do everything possible to ensure we defeat these enemies of humanity.” -President @MBuhari

The new Army Battalion and the Police Area Command are the latest in a series of law enforcement measures to ensure more effective protection of lives and property, in and around Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara and Nasarawa States.

Last week the Nigerian Air Force took delivery of two new helicopter gunships, for deployment to parts of the country affected by banditry.

A Quick Response Wing has also been established by the Nigerian Air Force in Taraba State, while a Joint Military Intervention Force is fully on ground in Benue.

President Buhari assures that security remains a priority for his government and his administration will not tolerate the persistent killing of innocent people in order to set Nigerians against one another.

According to the President, “these persistent killings are not spontaneous; there are subterranean forces with a sinister agenda to instigate war in the country for selfish purposes.”

He notes that, “Although unconventional war is particularly complicated, our security forces are making rigorous efforts to better understand these enemies with a view to decisively checkmating their evil attacks.”

President Buhari extends his condolences to the families of the victims, the government and the people of Kaduna State over this unfortunate tragedy, assuring that his government will never abandon them to their fate.

Only God Will Determine Who Will Win The Election In 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari Says

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for patience, maturity and orderliness as the nation heads into the 2019 elections, saying that from his own experience, he could tell that it is only God who determines winners of elections.

Speaking at the All Progressives Party’s (APC) Ward Congress held at Bayagida Model Primary School, Daura, Katsina state on Saturday, he, therefore, urged political parties, candidates and the electorate to put the country first and always remember that victory ultimately belongs to God.

He said: “After going to the court so many times to challenge results of elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011, and going up to the Supreme Court, I concluded that ultimately it is God who determines who will win elections, and in 2015 I got here.”

The president said he was not seeking re-election for frivolity or personal ambition but to serve the people, and see their lives improved.

According to him, his decision to seek a second term in office was therefore borne out of a deep passion to serve Nigerians, and not for personal gains.

President Buhari said the passion to serve and see real changes in the lives of Nigerians informed his choice to join partisan politics in the first place and inspired him to contest elections in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.

Buhari noted that his administration had already started the process of ensuring fairness, justice and equity, in spite of challenges, and would work hard to consolidate on the gains.

He added: “I am not in politics for fun, frivolity or to amass wealth, I have always been driven by a deep sense of commitment to make a difference to the lives of our people.

“After my retirement from the army, or forceful retirement, I sat back and watched as events unfolded on the political turf, and realised the country needed an intervention for fairness, justice and inclusion of Nigerians in the issues that affect their lives,’’ he said.

In his remarks, the Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, said the process of electing the leaders of the party at the ward level was hitch-free, orderly and based on the constitution of the APC.

“What we have here are our leaders that were chosen based on consensus and we are happy that it reflects the will of the people and the APC constitution. We followed the process to also ensure that there is an affirmation,’’ he said.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Ward Congress, who is also the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq urged the party leaders to remain loyal and live up to expectations.

APC Promised Change, But It Appears The People Have Been Shortchanged, Pastor Tunde Bakare Says

The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has once again criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Bakare said APC has failed to deliver on its change mandate.

“APC promised change, but it appears the people have been shortchanged, don’t promise what you cannot deliver.

“APC’s right leg is CPC, left leg is ACN, right hand is ANPP, left hand is a faction of PDP, and right at the head we don’t know how many chromosomes are there.

“The problem is that the Nigerian populace don’t know their right from their left,” the cleric said.

He also took a swipe at Buhari, stating that a leader must “stand shoulder high above the perversity of his generation”.

“Any leader that calls himself a person of integrity, a patriot, someone who wants society to change cannot be like others, he must stand shoulder high above the perversity of his generation,” Bakare added.

Swiss Government Remitted $322Million Abacha Loot To Nigeria In December 2017, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Says

Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has hailed civil society groups for their roles in the return of $322m traced to late Head of State, Sani Abacha.

He gave the commendation at the Open Government Partnership (OGP) week held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja on Monday.

Osinbajo revealed that since the government joined the OGP, access to public information premised on the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act enacted in 2011, had improved significantly.

“I am told that at least 106 government institutions now have designated FOI Desk Officers, to ensure speedy responses to information requests in compliance with the (FOI) Act and the commitments we have made under the Nigeria OGP National Action Plan.

“We have set up a Presidential Committee on Asset Recovery (PCAR), and developed procedures and guidance to ensure that all recovered funds are paid into a single Central Bank Asset Recovery account, for improved transparency and ease of management.

“The Federal Government’s agreement with the Swiss Government on the return of looted funds traced to former Head of State General Sani Abacha, led to the remittance of US$322 million in December 2017.

“This historic agreement also includes CSO monitoring of the utilization of the returned asset. I must acknowledge the role played by The Africa Network for Environment & Economic Justice (ANEEJ) in the negotiation of this agreement and leading of other CSOs in monitoring the utilization of the fund.

“Since 2017, our annual national budgets have included a line item on revenue generated from asset recoveries. All funds forfeited to the Federal Government are being included in our yearly budget proposals, for appropriation by the National Assembly.

“We have also committed to investing these recovered funds on Infrastructure projects and our National Social Investment Programme. In addition, we have submitted a Bill to the National Assembly for the purpose of enacting a more comprehensive legislation on proceeds of crime,” he said.
